YOU RECEIVED A WORD OF KNOWLEDGE OR PROPHECY, WHAT DOES THAT MEAN?
December 2021

What is “a word of knowledge” or “a word of prophecy?” These are good questions. I will very briefly explain some basic biblical teaching on these questions. There are 3 things I will explain in this post:
1. What are the gifts? (Mainly the gifts of prophecy and the word of knowledge.)
2. What is the purpose of the gifts?
3. What does it mean if you received a word or prophecy?
What are “gifts of the Spirit?”
1 Corinthians 12:1 (The Living Bible)
And now, brothers, I want to write about the special abilities the Holy Spirit gives to each of you, for I don’t want any misunderstanding about them.
There are several gifts of the Holy Spirit mentioned in 1 Corinthians 12 given to various people to help the people in the Church. The Church is the people, not the building. The Holy Spirit gives supernatural ability, or “gifts,” to help encourage His Church or people.
What is the primary purpose of the gifts of the Spirit?”
1. To cause God to be seen more visibly or tangibly.
2. To encourage people, both individually and as a church body. For example, the Apostle Paul wrote this to the Church that was in Corinth:
1 Corinthians 14:3 (NKJV)
But he who prophesies speaks edification and exhortation and comfort to men.
Paul the Apostle is speaking here about the gift of prophecy. This gift is to edify or enlighten, exhort or encourage, and comfort or console people. This is also true for the “word of knowledge” gift mentioned in 1 Corinthians 12. There’s a lot more to it, but again, we will keep it very basic for this post.
You received a word of knowledge or a word of prophecy; what does that mean for you?
It means you should be encouraged! God wanted to make Himself more real to you! By His Holy Spirit, God moved through someone to speak to you in a very personal way. That should encourage you to continue to believe in God and be faithful to Him. Keep going to Church, keep reading your Bible, and keep praying to God. God has a plan for your life, and if you continue to follow Him and trust Him, He will guide you into His perfect will and destiny for your life. And that is a very GOOD thing…
Romans 8:28 (The Living Bible)
And we know that all that happens to us is working for our good if we love God and are fitting into his plans.
This does not mean we will never have problems or difficulties, but rather that God will help us get through those things victoriously. Ultimately, we will know Him more deeply and learn to trust Him for every need or situation that comes our way.
Philippians 4:19 (The Living Bible)
And it is he who will supply all your needs from his riches in glory because of what Christ Jesus has done for us.
In conclusion, if you received a word of knowledge or prophecy, you must continue to follow Jesus Christ in the Faith for these promises to work for you. That means staying in Church, reading your Bible, and sharing your faith with others. As you continue to do these things it allows for God to work out and bring to pass His will, purpose, and promises for your life. That is important! Because that is where the blessings are found!
May God richly bless you!
